Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by 292 points in early trade today on the back of buying by funds in heavy-weight stocks, triggered by firm global markets.
Major gainers, which supported the Sensex were Reliance Industries, Reliance Infra, ONGC, Tata Steel, Tata Power, BHEL, Larsen and Toubro, HDFC Ltd, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, DLF Ltd, Ranbaxy, Satyam Computers, Infosys and Wipro.
The BSE-30 share index, Sensex, which had lost 557.57 points yesterday, moved up by 292.26 points to 14,083.80 with most of the index-related stocks trading higher.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty gained 73.35 points to 4,263.20.
Stock brokers said firm trends in global markets after fall in crude oil prices, influenced the sentiments here.
