Controversial lingerie ads pulled off air
Saturday, May 17, 2008 19:31 [IST]
New Delhi: Two controversial advertisements for undergarments have been pulled off air by several television channels since the last two days. After complaints from viewers that the Frenchie X and Lux Cozy undergarment advertisements were suggestive in nature, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued an order asking all broadcasters to withdraw these advertisements.

According to a representative of a television channel who did not wish to be quoted, the ministry had sent the order to all the TV channels airing these advertisements. The Centre had recently asked certain television channels to run scrolls apologising to viewers for running these advertisements. The channels ran the scrolls for three days.

Official sources told reporters that in 2007, the ministry had taken cognizance of complaints against similar types of advertisements of Gen-X and Lux Cozy undergarments. It had in a notice to broadcasters asked them to be more careful in future about selection of content of advertisements.

The ministry had earlier this year issued the "Self Regulation Guidelines 2008", calling for strict monitoring of content by broadcasters.
