Rupee recovers against dollar in early trade
Thursday, May 15, 2008 12:12 [IST]
Mumbai: The rupee today recovered marginally by 10 paise to 42.34/35 against the greenback in late morning deals on firm equity markets and some dollar selling by exporters at higher levels.

In quite trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the Indian unit opened rock steady at 42.44/45 a dollar from overnight close but later recovered to quote at 42.34/35 per dollar in late morning trade.

Exporters grabbed the opportunity to sell dollars at higher levels to book profits, helping the rupee surge.

The benchmark Sensex was also up by another 224 points at 10.30 am after gaining over 225 points yesterday that also boosted the rupee sentiment.

There was not much dollar demand from oil refiners as the world crude oil prices fell near $124 a barrel.
