Mumbai: Despite a test drive across the country covering over 13,000 kilometres, the prancing horse of Ferrari cars may not ride on Indian roads anytime before 2010, the CEO of Fiat India said.
"We presently have no plans to bring Ferrari to India. After this drive we have found out that the cars can be run on Indian roads but it will be at least two more years before we bring it here," Rajeev Kapoor, President and CEO of Fiat India Automobiles, said.
Fiat, the Italian automaker, is the manufacturer of Ferrari cars. Interest in motorsport and the required development in the field was expected to grow in the coming years due to which Ferrari cars will be brought to the country, he said.
Two Ferrari cars, 612 Scaglietti models with slightly raised suspensions to handle the Indian roads, travelled across 57 cities over 70 days as part of the "Magic India Discovery Drive". The drive ended today at the historic Gateway of India in south Mumbai.
Over 50 journalists drove the car during different legs of the journey and were accompanied by a technical team as well to maintain the cars. "Travelling through Indian roads was not exactly easy but then the goal was not speed but completing the journey," Antonio Ghini, Director of communications for Ferrari, said.
Chairman of Ferrari Luca di Montezmolo, who spoke through a video message, said he hoped the drive would also foster better relations between India and Italy in the future. Source : PTI |
