Unit assistance for BPL families increased

New Delhi: The unit assistance provided to the people living below poverty line (BPL) has been enhanced for construction of dwelling units under Indira Awaas Yojana, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Unit assistance for constructing dwellings in plain areas has been enhanced from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000, Minister of state for Rural Development Suryakanta Patil said in a written reply.

She said in case of dwellings to be constructed in hilly areas, the unit assistance has been increased from Rs 27,500 to Rs 38,500 per unit across the country. For upgrading kutcha houses, the financial assistance has been enhanced from Rs 12,500 to Rs 15,000 per unit.

The minister informed the Upper House that the revised rates have become applicable for houses sanctioned after April 1,2008.
