RIC seeks to rope in Brazil
Friday, March 28, 2008 17:47 [IST]
New Delhi: In a bid to widen its scope of business cooperation, the Russia-India-China trilateral (RIC) is seeking to rope in Brazil, a fast growing Latin American economic giant.

Discussions of the three countries with Brazil would focus exclusively on economic issues and enhancing business cooperation, Konstantin V Vnukov, Director of the First Asian Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an interaction with reporters here.

The trilateral meeting will deliberate on UN reforms, promoting cooperation in health-care, agriculture, emergency response mechanism besides other international problems.

The Foreign Ministers of the three countries are meeting in a quaint little town in the Ural mountains to take forward their initiative to enhance their role in the world.

An invitation has also been extended to the Foreign Minister of Brazil to participate in the discussions on the third and the final day of talks, he said.

Another highlight of the meeting would be the "unfortunate" event of Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia.

"The ministers will discuss this problem," Vnukov said adding such "separatist" tendencies have a "negative effect" on other parts of the world.

The Russian official favoured comprehensive reforms of the United Nations over the reorganisation of the Security Council.

Asked whether the unrest in Tibet would figure in the trilateral meeting, Vnukov said it would be if raised by any minister.
