Thursday, March 27, 2008 11:33 [IST]
Dubai: With the surge in price of essential food commodities, the UAE government has put 15 items on the free import list in a bid to contain inflation.

The Ministry of Economy has said that traders, corporations and cooperative societies can import 15 food items without conditions, said the official Emirates news agency.

Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehi, under-secretary in the ministry, said that the traders can import these items into the UAE without any condition to curb soaring prices and inflation.

He said that the items include dry and condensed milk, frozen and canned vegetables, child food, chicken, edible oil, rice, flour, fish products, meat, tea and coffee.
