New Delhi: The much-awaited policy for urban housing might soon see the light of the day with the government deciding to table the document in Parliament for its early passage.

The National Urban Housing and Habitat Policy, 2005 was approved by the Union Cabinet last night for its tabling in Parliament. Briefing reporters here today, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said the policy document would be circulated among state governments and other stake holders for its implementation.

The policy, when implemented, will promote sustained development of urban housing and settlements with a focus on social housing for economically weaker section and lower income groups, the minister said.
