New Delhi: The Reliance group, whose name figured in the Volcker Committee report on Iraqi oil-for-food scam, has now become the subject matter of a book that was released here today.
The book, written by advocate Arun K Aggarwal, claims that the Reliance group has been a focus of maximum number of controversies, court cases and investigations.
Released by CPI leader A B Bardhan, the book "Reliance The Real Natwar", points an accusing finger at politicians of all hues for "shielding" Reliance. Bardhan said the common man gets exploited by "monopolies" like Reliance if government pampers corporates and helps them accumulate wealth.
Spokesman for RIL described the book as an attempt to erode the credibility of the company. "We have been informed about the contents of the book released by certain people who are clearly driven by personal agendas. It is a malicious attempt to bring disrepute to RIL by misrepresenting and distorting facts.
"The government of India is seized of the matter. RIL has provided all factual information to the government authorities concerned. RIL has always acted within the framework and guidelines as per the Indian and International laws."
Spokesman for the Anil Ambani group was not available for comments.
