Apollo Tyres launches seventh HIV clinic

New Delhi: Tyre maker Apollo Tyres Ltd today launched its seventh healthcare clinic in Maharashtra as part of its HIV-AIDS awareness programme among truck drivers.

The new clinic was inaugurated in Khapri octroi post in Nagpur, one of largest trucking hubs in the state, in association with Avert Society, and Nagpur YMCA, the company said in a statement.

"The clinic would have a reach of approximately 10 sq km around the octroi post, touching the lives of over 3,000 truckers every day," it said.

The clinic is staffed by a permanent doctor and a counsellor, trained in sexually-transmitted diseases/ infections and aims at awareness generation and prevention.

This is the second targeted intervention in Maharashtra by the company after Vashi in Navi Mumbai. Besides Nagpur, Apollo Tyres has such healthcare clinics at New Delhi, Udaipur, Kanpur, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Jaipur.
