Tata chemicals signs MoA with ICRISAT for research
Wednesday, November 21, 2007 20:53 [IST]

Hyderabad: Tata Chemicals Limited (TCL) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to enter Sweet Sorghum Ethanol Research Consortium (SSERC).

The MOA was signed by Dr William Dar, ICRISAT Director General and TCL Managing Director Homl R Khusrokhan, a release said here today. This partnership would go a long way in enhancing the commercialization of sweet sorghum for bioethanol production, Dr Dar said.

Production of ethanol from sweet sorghum as a biofuel can provide additional income to dryland farmers without compromising their food security, he said.

On the occasion, Khusrokhan said he was happy that TCL had joined the consortium and it was envisaged that there was a huge global opportunity for all partners to work together to benefit millions of farmers by offering new market opportunities through this new venture.
