Verizon gets LoI for NLD, ILD licenses

New Delhi: US-based Verizon has received Letters of Intent for International and National Long Distance licenses for offering advanced communication services to India-based multinational companies.

Verizon Business India, which has partnered with Indian conglomerate Videocon group, once given the license will be able to offer a full range of services of MNCs including International private leased circuits with multi-protocol label switching and internet protocol services, a release from the US-based company said.

The IP and data network capabilities are planned for launch in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad in 2008. Verizon Business which holds an Internet Service Providers license currently offers services to its MNC customers for their Indian operations through partnerships with several licensed carriers in India.

John Killian, president, Verizon Business said "India is a strategic market for many of our MNC customers. We look forward to building on our existing presence in India to provide advanced communication services and high-quality support direct to customer operations based here".

Venugopal Dhoot, chairman, Videocon group said "This is a positive step forward for Verizon Business India and for companies with operations in India. We look forward to helping MNCs in India achieve their global business objectives".

Verizon Business India is the trading name of the joint venture in which Verizon holds 74 percent and Leo Communication of Videocon holds 26 percent stake.
