Sensex ends 23 points higher; ONGC drags Nifty down
Thursday, December 07, 2006 06:06 [IST]

Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex gained over 23 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange today as index heavy Reliance Industries spurted on aggressive buying, while the wide-based National Stock Exchange's index Nifty settled little lower than previous close.

The 30-share index, Sensex, which had crossed 14,000 points level yesterday, still shied away from this level and ended at 13,972.03, showing a gain of 23.03 points.

A steep rise in Reliance Ind, a second heaviest on the index, by closing at Rs 1300.75 against previous close of Rs 1280.10 attributed in keeping the Sensex in positive zone.

However, the NSE index Nifty closed lower by 0.60 point at 4,015.35 as the index-heaviest ONGC fell by Rs.4.05 at Rs.861.55.
